Speaking Flashcards

🇬🇧 Step-by-Step: Drill Your Own Pronunciation Errors

① Speaking Flashcards are auto-created from your weakest sentences in PTE Speaking, Free Talk, IELTS, TOEFL, the new 2026 task types (Respond to a Situation → pragmatic-response cards, Summarize Group Discussion → speaker-resummary cards, TOEFL Listen & Repeat → audio-repeat cards, TOEFL Take an Interview → opinion-expand cards), and from each weak phoneme flagged in the Diagnostic. ② Open "Speaking Flashcards" from the Speak menu (or via "View in Library"). You will see all your speaking cards with source badges (PTE, Free Talk, Pron Lab, RTS, SGD, L&R, Interview, etc.) and target-phoneme chips. ③ Each card has a 3-level drill ladder. Classic cards (PTE / Free Talk / Lab): Set 1 — minimal-pair recognition (multiple-choice listen-and-pick), Set 2 — single-word production (record one target word), Set 3 — full sentence production (record the whole sentence). ④ The four new 2026 drill kinds use bespoke 3-set ladders tailored to the task: pragmatic-response cards drill recognition → ordering → production; speaker-resummary cards drill speaker attribution → completion → re-summarisation; audio-repeat cards drill cloze → dictation → full-repeat production; opinion-expand cards drill opener → supporting reasons → full response. ⑤ Every card runs on the same 8-day spaced-repetition schedule as your vocabulary and writing cards. Due cards surface in /speak and on your main Dashboard's Today's Reviews list. ⑥ Click "Review" on any card to start its current due day. Pass ≥ 75% to mark the day complete and advance the schedule; fail and you can immediately retry with fresh drills. ⑦ Use search + filters (sourceKind, sourceFeature, drillKind, sortKey) to find cards fast. Bulk-select to delete in batches. ⑧ Why it works: speaking errors are the most personal data we have — drilling them with progressive recognition → production cycles is the fastest path from "tink" to "think".

The science

Why your speaking actually improves here

Spaced repetition

8-day schedule (1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90) tested across millions of language learners — proven to multiply retention by 3-5×.

Production beats recognition

Saying a word out loud activates 4× more brain regions than re-reading it. Our 3-level ladder ends with full sentence production.

Just-in-time practice

Cards reappear right before you'd forget — the optimal window for long-term memory consolidation.

Real mistakes only

No generic word lists. Every card comes from a sentence you actually said — and got wrong. That's why it sticks.
