🇬🇧 Step-by-Step: Open-Ended Speaking with Rubric Scores
① Open "Free Talk" from the Speak menu. You will see a prompt picker tuned to your CEF level (A2 → C1) covering everyday topics, opinions, storytelling, and abstract themes. ② Pick a prompt or hit "Surprise me" for a random one — you can change prompts at any time before recording. ③ Tap Record and speak freely for 60–180 seconds. Use natural pace; do not read from a script. ④ Tap Stop (or let it auto-stop). The clip uploads, gets transcribed by Whisper, then GPT scores it against a 4-rubric band system: Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammar Range & Accuracy, Pronunciation (each 0–9, IELTS-style). ⑤ The feedback panel returns: an overall band, fluency metrics (WPM, pause ratio, filler count), a per-rubric breakdown with bilingual notes, sentence-by-sentence corrections, a Band-9 rewrite of your response, and improvement suggestions. ⑥ "Save as Speaking Flashcard" turns any weak sentence into a 3-level drill deck (recognition → word → sentence) with its own 8-day schedule. ⑦ "Write this up" launches Write & Correct pre-loaded with your transcript so you can sharpen the same idea in writing. ⑧ Tip: aim for >120 WPM with <2 fillers per minute — that is the band-7 sweet spot.
