Compare Speaking Attempts

🇬🇧 Step-by-Step: See Your Speaking Improve Side-by-Side

① Open /speak/compare or the "Compare" link from your Speaking Stats page. ② Pick any 2 past speaking attempts from the dropdown. Task-type filter chips at the top let you narrow to a single 2026 task family (e.g. only Respond to a Situation, only TOEFL Listen & Repeat, only full sets) so you compare like-with-like. ③ Once you pick attempt A, attempt B is automatically locked to the same task type — that is the only way the per-rubric deltas are meaningful. ④ The comparison view shows both transcripts side-by-side with sentence-level word diffs (matched / substituted / missed / extra words colour-coded). ⑤ Task-type-aware delta dispatcher: the rubric breakdown adapts to what you compared. PTE single tasks show Content / Pronunciation / Oral Fluency deltas (10–90 scale). PTE full sets show all 7 task scaled deltas. TOEFL L&R items show Exactness / Intelligibility deltas (0-5). TOEFL Interview items show Fluency / Elaboration / Vocabulary deltas (0-5). TOEFL full sets show the section-level deltas (L&R out of 35 + Interview out of 20 → final 0-30). ⑥ Synced audio players let you play both recordings at the same time, or play either independently — perfect for hearing exactly which words you pronounced more clearly the second time. ⑦ Fluency-metric deltas (WPM, pause ratio, filler count) appear alongside. ⑧ Format-mismatch guard: if you accidentally compare a legacy 2025 attempt with a 2026 attempt, a yellow banner explains why only the overall delta is meaningful — the rubrics changed between the two formats. ⑨ Why it matters: hearing your own progress is one of the most motivating signals in language learning. Use compare weekly to confirm your study is paying off.
